If you don’t have a membership to Sam’s Club or Costco, you can get them on Amazon for around the same price. I’d include one more list of things under $1: SNACKS.
With a family of 8, snacks seem to be a big expense.

My big thing is seeking nutrient dense foods at the best price. Thus, we eat
only whole wheat breads and use it for french toast, sandwiches, etc. It is
also more filling than white bread because of the fiber. We stay away from
white flour products, it has cut down on our doctor bills in amazing ways.
